HCPSS Dual Enrollment Students Excel in Seven-Week Course Module
New data shows that first-year dually enrolled students in Howard Community College's new seven-week course modules are excelling across various offerings.
Over 400 Howard County Public Schools students simultaneously took high school and college classes at HCC and enrolled in Accelerated Pathways courses during the first two seven-week sessions held last fall. According to data, 278 students earned 'As' in these courses, and 78% of the cohort earned a 'B' or higher.
"This is a fantastic sign of how flexible course scheduling is a key part of meeting students where they dream," said HCC President Daria J. Willis. "Accelerated Pathways extends abbreviated course models used during traditional winter and summer sessions and gives students great latitude in taking different courses at a pace that makes them individually comfortable with their chances of success. Thank you to our faculty and academic advisers who make success possible for these scholars."
Accelerated courses expand student options to save time, gain college credits faster, and more quickly advance toward degree completion, transfer options, and career readiness.
"I am very pleased with how our faculty and advisers have helped students to understand the requirements and benefits of seven-week instruction, said Shantay Grays, HCC Executive Vice President and Provost. "Students are making informed decisions about what it takes to earn a degree, and our teaching and learning employees are connected and engaged to see them to the finish line."
During regular fall and spring semesters, students can choose between seven-week and 15-week courses, depending on their schedule and program of study. Courses are offered in-person, online, and hybrid formats to accommodate busy schedules for students who work and raise or care for families.
