Howard County Legislative Delegation to Honor Former Howard Community College Trustees, Discuss Board Expansion
The Howard County Delegation to the Maryland General Assembly will honor three former Howard Community College trustees on Monday, Nov. 25 in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building beginning at 7 p.m.
Past Chair Christopher Marasco, Immediate Past Chair Sean Keller, and Immediate Past Vice Chair M. Shafeeq Ahmed will be recognized for executive service to the college as board members appointed by Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan between 2017 and 2022 as part of HCC’s seven-member legal governing body.
“We applaud the delegation for recognizing the impact these former trustees had on an historic era of growth and performance for the college, said Daria J. Willis, Ph.D., President of Howard Community College. “Alongside our current trustees, they provided oversight for a presidential transition that has maintained the high quality of HCC’s impact on students and our surrounding community, while expanding the scope of our profile as a national model for student educational access and support. They are great standard bearers for how our college leadership should be publicly recognized now and into the future.”
Ahmed left the board in August of this year, while Keller and Marasco departed the following month.
Their recognition ceremony will be part of the delegation’s public notice meeting for local legislative proposals and bond initiatives for the 2025 General Assembly session.
Among the proposals for public discussion will be the expansion of HCC’s board of trustees membership from seven members to nine members for approval by the Maryland governor and state Senate.
