Howard County Runs on Duncan
During Community College Month (and every month) Howard Community College makes Howard County one of the very best places to live, work, play, grow and thrive.
Every April, Howard Community College and community colleges across the United States recognize Community College Month in partnership with the Association of Community College Trustees.
Many people know that community colleges are a public good, granting access to high-quality, affordable higher education for all. But, there are so many ways community colleges meet the needs of their communities - in addition to serving students.
Engaging Learners of All Ages
HCC provides a wide array of youth programming opportunities including Kids on Campus, the YEP! Youth Sports Clinics, and a Boys & Girls Club - the first in residence at a Maryland community college.
HCC’s community education programs offer courses in a variety of topics for adults looking to express their creativity and learn for fun. From creative writing or hands-on cooking classes to retirement planning or history courses, enriching experiences and boundless opportunities await!
Celebrating Art in the Heart of Howard County
Howard County is home to a celebrated community of artists and art organizations. For nearly 20 years HCC’s Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center has presented the diverse work of professional and student artists.
The Horowitz Center regularly works with community partners to ensure access to the arts for all. From free gallery exhibitions to children’s theatre productions the center serves as a resource to further the public’s appreciation of the arts.
Seasons regularly include classical music performances, modern musicals and classic plays, contemporary dance concerts, inspiring arts exhibits and so much more!
Supporting Local Businesses and the Economy
HCC is a wise investment, bringing strong returns for students, businesses and the community.
For every $1 invested in the College, state and local governments gain $1.40 in added tax revenue and public sector savings
For every $1 invested toward their apprentices in a registered apprenticeship program, businesses earn $1.44
For every $1 invested in their education, students gain $4.10 in higher lifetime earnings
HCC prepares students for in-demand careers and offers workforce development resources. Businesses can benefit from customized training, support apprenticeship opportunities and connect with students for employment opportunities.
The college strengthens the local economy by $385 million annually, the equivalent of 4,300 jobs. In fact, 1 out of every 60 jobs in Howard County is supported by the activities of HCC and its students. HCC employs over 1,600 people, making the College one of Howard County’s largest employers.

As the county’s primary hub for higher learning, HCC is proud to meet our students where they dream and serve our community by providing pathways to success. With resources for youth, high school students, adult learners, businesses and employers, and visitors and the community, there is something for everyone in Dragon Country.
