Howard Community College today announced Verna Bernoi as the Associate Vice President of Finance. Bernoi has served in a variety of management and executive roles at the college since 2006 and has led as interim AVP since last fall.
“Verna brings a wealth of experience and institutional knowledge and commitment to this role," said Dr. Tyria Stone, Vice President of Campus Services and Chief Financial Officer. "HCC values talent and affinity for its mission that is developed within our campus community. I look forward to seeing Verna continually bringing these assets to this critical role."
Bernoi joined HCC in 2016 after management positions with Frederick Community College and the Interfaith Housing Alliance. A certified public accountant, her work for the college includes accounting management for the HCC Educational Foundation, and director posts in the offices of student finance and accounting, and budget and finance.
Her commitment to students, she says, is at the center of her excitement to serve in the permanent role overseeing budgets, investments, and strategic financial planning.
“Efficiency and responsible management are the hallmarks of any organization, but particularly those serving students who are realizing their professional dreams," says Bernoi. "I am very excited to be part of a team that is committed to success for students and employees, and translating that success into growth for our communities."
Verna earned associate and baccalaureate degrees from Columbia Union College.
